Tot de opdrachten van de sportdienst behoren het centraliseren en verspreiden van een maximum aan informatie over het sportleven in de gemeente, het verlenen van concrete hulp, in verschillende vormen, aan de clubs die actief zijn op het grondgebied van Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, het organiseren van sportevenementen, waarvan sommige meer in het bijzonder gericht zijn op de leerlingen van de lagere scholen, het goede beheer van de sportinfrastructuur die onder zijn verantwoordelijkheid valt, en het opvolgen van de verschillende dossiers met betrekking tot de renovatie, de herinrichting en de ontwikkeling van deze infrastructuur. Al deze initiatieven hebben een tweeledig doel : de sport op dynamische wijze bevorderen en de bevolking ertoe aanzetten aan lichaamsbeweging te doen door hun een ruime keuze en kwaliteitsvoorzieningen aan te bieden.
